REV. EMMANUEL AGYEI KWAFO SPEAKS ON "QUENCH NOT THE SPIRIT" AT GETHSEMANE IMPACT

On September 8, 2015  Rev. Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo was at the Ammamoma field, UCC to speak on the Topic: "Quench not the spirit of God". Reading from 1st Thessalonians 5:19 he started by giving an account of the book of Thessalonians which was Paul's letter to the church. He said despite the challenges faced by the church it still survived. Paul called the church not to quench the spirit of God because the philosophies of their time made it difficult for them to distinguish between light and darkness. He said As Christians we should not quench the spirit of God no matter what we may be going through. He added that to quench not the spirit means that God has made several deposits in us and as Christians should not neglect such giftings but to revive the spirit in us. God requires of every Christian something and if we neglect those specific assignment then we have quench the spirit. According to the Travelling Secretary to quench not the spirit means;

  • Not to do things that will take the light out of us
  • Do not do anything that will take the presence of God out of our life
  • To maintain your identity in Christ
  • Make your influence strong like wild fire in the world
The presence of Christ must be felt wherever we are and by who we are and what we have we must communicate the presence of God. He added that the essence of the spirit is to make impact. If the spirit of God lives in us then we must be different from the world.
In conclusion he said anything we elevate above the word of God becomes an idol and if we do not want to quench the spirit then our devotion to God must be very strong and also live a righteous life. We should also detect false doctrines and expose them. We must keep our conviction sure that Jesus is the way the truth and the life. Laziness, discouragement can quench the spirit. Keep your faith and focus in Christ. 1st Thessalonians 5:23
